Media Seminar at CMI, Kolkata

The Calcutta Media Institute conducted a two day Media Seminar on ‘Producing Media: Challenges and Trends’ on 9th and 10th October, 2015 from 11am to 7pm. The seminar was inaugurated by the honourable director of CMI, Mr. Amitabha Datta, who has a past experience of 33 years in ABP group. The seminar was divided into three sessions each day. The broadcast management group, under the mentorship of Mr. Malay Dasgupta (The Head of the Department) and Sandip Chaudhuri (Programme Director) took the initiative to invite the eminent luminaries from different spheres of the media world into an intriguing brain storming discussion on media.

The two days event covered a wide spectrum of critical media issues in the Indian and Global landscape. There were interesting discussions and open debates on various topics stretching from
print, radio, and electronic media to cinema. Veteran speakers with profound experience in media graced the seminar and shared their perspectives on numerous contemporary issues pertinent to
media. The students were exposed to the varied challenges in a diversified media , their trends ,opportunities and the strategies employed by different industry to cope with the new age media.

The first day session witnessed the presence of dignitaries like Mr. Sumit Dasgupta (T2 and Metro Editor), Mr.Anindya Bhaumik (Deputy General Manager in ABP Pvt.ltd), Mr. Kaushik Ghosh (Former Business head of ABP magazines) from Print. From Radio, Ms. Madhuri Bhosale (Senior VP and Clusterhead East, Radio Mirchi ), Mr. Jimmy Tangree ( Station head, 91.9 Friends FM), Ms. Roopsha Dasgupta ( Station head of Power 107.8 FM), Ms. Debika Mukherjee ( Programming head, Big FM), Mr. Kaushik Bhattacharya (Programme director, Big FM). From Cinema, Mr Ashok Vishwanathan (Film director),Mr. Subrata Sen (Film director), Mr. J.K Ray (Associate VP and Business head Reliance Entertainment) & Mr. Pradipta Bhattacharya (Film director) The next day’s session had media exponents like Mr. Sougata Mukhopadhyay (Bureau chief CNN-IBN), Ms. Srimati Roy (Group Marketing Manager ABP), Mr. Sudipta Sengupta( TV Journalist ), Mr. Snehashish Sur (Senior Producer of Doordarshan Kendra, Kolkata) from news channels.

Entertainment channels had speakers like Mr. Soumik Chattopadhyay (T.V/Film director), Ms. Sahana Dutta (Fiction Head, Shree Venkatesh Films), Mr. Anil Kuriakose (T.V director), Ms. Neelanjan Bannerjee (Fish-eye productions). The last session had guest speakers like Mr. Kamaleshwar Mukherjee (Film director), Mr. Arghya kamal Mitra (Film Editor), Ms. Abhik Mukhopadhyay (Director and cinematographer) & Mr. Ravi Sharma (CEO, Shree Venkatesh Films).

The Seminar ended at a high note and proved to be an enriching exercise for the aspiring media professionals.
